What this does not change

Nothing on this site is recommended because it pays. Books are only ever linked where the page had already named a specific translation and said why that one — four pages in a corpus of four hundred and eighty-two do that, and they are the pages whose own closing question is which edition a reader should get. Every other page here is reference: a god, a myth, a family tree, a comparison. Those carry no product link, because a page about a deity is not a shopping decision and nothing on it implies a purchase.

No publisher has paid for a mention, seen a page before it was published, or had any say in which translation is described as the standard one. Where a page recommends an edition, the reason given is the reason — the gaps in the tablets are marked, the recension is named, the translator kept the strangeness — and it would be the same recommendation with no commission attached.

Where we link, we link to a search for the edition rather than to one specific listing. That is partly honesty, since a particular printing has not been inspected here, and partly practical: translations are reissued constantly, and a fixed listing goes out of stock or quietly turns into a different book, while a search for the translator and the title stays right.

How to spot the links

This site also carries display advertising and sells a printable companion, and takes direct support from readers. All of that is set out on the about and support pages, and none of it buys a say in the writing either.
